Notary 101: Notarizing Election Petitions
Read a newspaper or watch the local news during an election year and inevitably, you will read or hear about someone notarizing their own election petitions.
In Pennsylvania, every candidate seeking nomination for public office must file a notarized petition indicating the support of the members of his or her political party.
The number of signatures required on nomination petitions depends on the office the candidate is seeking. For example, petitions for Pennsylvania senators need 500 signatures while petitions for Pennsylvania representatives require 300 signatures. [Read more...]

An oath is a solemn declaration, usually accompanied by a swearing to God or a supreme being. A pledge that is equivalent to an oath—but without reference to God or a supreme being—is called an affirmation.
